Caribbean Open for Business

The Caribbean is open for business!

Grand Cayman escaped a direct hit from Dean. No reports of damage to hotels and resorts.

St. Lucia - As we reported earlier, the island is in good shape, the airport is open, electricity is on throughout the island and all hotels and resorts are open for business. 

Tourism on the islands of Barbados, St Kitts and Martinique have not been affected. Airports are open, and hotels and resorts are all up and running. 

The Dominican Republic received heavy rains and wind, but the tourism industry has not reported any extensive damage to hotels and resorts.

Dominica "the nature island" reports very minor damage to its tourism infrastructure. All hotels remain intact with reports of fallen trees, downed fences, shingles blown away and some broken windows. Electricity and water restored to most hotels - and all electricity expected to be restored by tomorrow. 

JAMAICA UPDATE

Jamaica's capital city Kingston and the South coast areas suffered extensive damage, but the northern resort spots of Montego Bay and Ocho Rios have reported little damage.

Areas in Kingston, St James, Hanover and Trelawny are still without electrical power. The main roads from Ocho Rios to Montego Bay and Negril are all clear.

Jamaica Airports

Air Jamaica resumed operations today at the Norman Manley International Airport in Kingston, Jamaica. We have not been able to confirm reports that the roads into Kingston are open.

Jamaica Hotel Damage - We have attempted to only list those reports that experienced hurricane damage. Any hotel or resort not listed is currently open for business with no reported damage. List will be updated as we get more information.  

Tryall - Minimal damage. Reopen this weekend.

Hilton Hotel - Some water damage to furniture and carpet, foliage

Strawberry Hill - Will open Friday, Aug. 24

Riu - All hotels open. Waiting for electricity and water supply.

Goldeneye - No structural damage; accepting guests Weds. Aug. 22

Jake’s - Will open on October 1

Pegasus Hotel minimal damage to foliage and windows. Fire reported at hotel today.

Tensing Pen - Sustained minimal damage and should be open for business by this weekend.

Jamaica Palace – Minimal damage to property.

Altamont Court - Minimal damage to roof and foliage.

Courtleigh Hotel - Minimal damage – broken windows, foliage, etc

Coyaba - Minimal damage

Half Moon Resort - Minimal property damage - fallen trees, limbs and debris
